Production

Synthesis

From dithionite

An aqueous solution of sodium dithionite, in the presence of oxygen, creates both sodium bisulfite and sodium bisulfate:

Na2S2O4(aq) + O2(aq) + H2O NaHSO4 + NaHSO3

From bisulfite

Oxidize bisulfite to bisulfate

From sulfuric acid

Purification

  • Recrystallize from water
