Qualitative tests are generally sensory, subjective in nature, and non-numeric

  • Sight: luminosity (glow), color, transparency, apparent particle size/shape
  • Sound: fizzy, maybe? Loud? Soft?
  • Tactile: apparent density, apparent viscocity, apparent temperature
  • Smell: Scent
  • Taste: Salty/Sweet/Tart/Bitter/Umame

The most important thing to keep in mind about qualitative tests is the risk to the tester. While looking at and listening to materials is relatively safe, touching, inhaling, or tasting toxic materials can kill, so these are last-resort kinds of tests.
