Chalcocite, along with malachite and azurite is a primary ore of copper. It is a mixture of different copper-sulfur compounds, with occasional iron substitutions. Copper-sulfur proportions include 9:5 (digenite), 6:4 or 5:4 (bornite), 2:1 (chalcocite) and 1:1 (covellite).
