Combine a soluble copper (II) salt (like copper (II) chloride or copper (II) acetate) with sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide

Example

  1. Dissolve 72g copper (II) acetate monohydrate (0.36M) in 1L of water
  2. Dissolve 42g of sodium hydroxide monohydrate (0.72M) in 50ml of water
  3. Combine solutions producing copper hydroxide and sodium acetate
    Cu(CH3COO)2(aq) + 2 NaOH(aq) Cu(OH)2(s) + NaCH3COO(aq)
